DEA Registration for Prescriptive Authority Applicants

We’ve received an important reminder from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) that can help prevent delays in your application process.

The DEA reports that many West Virginia APRN applicants for a Controlled Substances (CS) registration are missing prescriptive authority on their state license. Without it, the DEA cannot process your application — leading to frustration and lost time.

Here’s what to do before applying for DEA CS registration:

  1. Apply for prescriptive authority through the West Virginia RN Board.
  2. Wait until you are approved before submitting your DEA application.

Following these steps will help ensure a smoother process and avoid unnecessary delays.
