Important Notice: No Printed License Cards or Paper Certificates Issued

The West Virginia Board of Registered Nurses no longer prints or mails physical paper license cards or certificates. Physical paper documents can easily be altered, forged, or become outdated following disciplinary or administrative status changes.

To ensure real-time accuracy and protect public safety, official primary source verification of a nurse's current authorization to practice must be verified electronically through our free License Lookup Portal or NURSYS.com.

West Virginia participates in NURSYS. If you are an RN applying for licensure in another state, you must request your electronic verification directly through NURSYS.

APRN Verification to Another State

NURSYS does not verify APRN licenses. To verify your West Virginia APRN license to another nursing board, a written request and a $30.00 fee are required.

Requesting APRN License Verification

To request that the West Virginia Board of Registered Nurses send official verification of your WV APRN license to another state board of nursing, please follow these steps:

  1. Submit a Written Request: Include your full legal name, WV license number, contact information, and the exact name and address of the destination state board.
  2. Include the $30.00 Processing Fee: Payment must be made by cashier's check or money order for $30.00 made payable to the WV Board of Registered Nurses. (Personal checks are not accepted.)
  3. Attach Destination Forms: If the destination state board requires a specific verification form to be completed, include it with your written request and fee payment.
